This package also includes items to support for fathers as well. The inflation rate reached 5.4% in July 2021, the highest in over a decade, causing financial strain as the cost of essential goods and services continues to rise. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant job losses, with the unemployment rate soaring to 11.3% in July 2021. This reality highlights the struggle faced by individuals and families in securing stable employment. Philadelphia also ranks as the 10th poorest city in the country, with a poverty rate of 23.3% in 2019, emphasizing the urgent need for support, especially for marginalized communities.

 

Additionally, the increasing cost of baby food and related items adds to the financial burden on families. Raising a child from birth to age 18 can cost a staggering $233,610, making it even more challenging for families already facing economic hardship. Urban communities, including Philadelphia, have a high demand for affordable baby items, further underscoring the need for assistance. By investing in these areas, we can help alleviate the financial burdens faced by individuals and families in Philadelphia to help improve their quality of life and maternal outcomes.

 

Royal Generation Community Baby Shower aims to provide a “Maternal Care Package” with vital essentials to support families in need. With the fifth year of our annual event approaching and word-of-mouth spreading throughout the communities we serve, we have witnessed a growing demand for assistance. We are seeking sponsors to join us in making a lasting impact on the lives of 150 families for this event. By sponsoring with Royal Generation Community Baby Shower, we will be able to offer a comprehensive package that aims to address various aspects of maternal care, including diapers, wipes, clothing, breastfeeding items, postpartum essentials, mental health and doula services.

 

 Allocation of Funds:

 

  1. Maternal Care Packages ($250 per family):

 

  • Diapers, wipes, lotion, bottles, pacifiers, bibs, diaper bags filled with essentials etc.
  • Clothing: Providing clothing for mother and baby.
  • Breastfeeding supplies
  • Grocery gift card

 

  1. Transportation Vouchers:

 

  • Providing transportation assistance to 20 families to ensure access to medical appointments, support groups, and other vital resources.

 

  1. Mental Health Referrals and Doula Services:

 

  • Mental Health Referrals: Connecting families with professional mental health services to address any emotional challenges they may face.
  • Doula Services: Offering personalized support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

 

In 2023, Royal Generation Community Baby Shower was delighted to have been able to assist 134 families, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of the families we serve. The previous year, in 2022, we provided support to 125 families, and in 2021, we aided 102 families. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we managed to serve 96 families in 2020. It is important to mention that during 2020, the city of Philadelphia still faced certain lockdown restrictions, which further highlights the dedication and resilience of our team in ensuring that families received the essential support they needed.
